The Vilafranca del Penedès City Council has secured a 624,000 euro subsidy from the Generalitat de Catalunya to renovate the roofs of the Pavelló de la Gamba and the outdoor Hockey Pavilion rink, with implementation scheduled starting in 2025.

The municipal administration in Vilafranca has initiated the process to solve the leakage problems affecting the roofs of these facilities, a historical deficiency that has been significantly worsened by the intense rainfall episodes recorded over the past year.
This investment is part of the Generalitat's program, the Shock Plan for the improvement of the basic network of sports facilities for the period 2025-2029, which has approved the subsidized amount of 624,000 euros. The main objectives are the comprehensive renovation of the roof of the Pavelló de la Gamba and the repair of the roof covering the outdoor court of the Hockey Pavilion.

"we have been actively listening to the entities and clubs that use the facilities and, therefore, we will provide solutions to this historical shortcoming thanks to the subsidy granted to us, especially after the recent water episodes that have highlighted the need to act."

The City Council has already commissioned the necessary technical study to define the construction actions and the execution schedule in detail. Regarding the Pavelló de la Gamba, the renovation project is underway, and the roof replacement is expected to take place during 2026, followed by the change of the interior pavement.
This action is part of a global strategy to improve municipal sports facilities, following years of underinvestment in maintenance. Recently, improvements have already been carried out, such as the renovation of the turf and lighting of the football field, the refurbishment of the changing rooms at the Hockey Pavilion, and upgrades to the Aquatic Complex, totaling an investment of approximately 3 million euros.
