The president of the Federació Catalana de Caça, Joaquín Zarzoso, warned today in Cabó that the decline in licenses and the aging of hunters jeopardize the management of wild boar overpopulation in Catalonia.

Zarzoso stresses that although the number of wild boar captures has increased since 2000, this effort falls on an increasingly smaller group, which is unsustainable in the medium and long term without structural support.

"The aging of the group, the lack of generational replacement, and the increase in costs associated with hunting activity are factors that harm the continuity of hunting."

The Federation deems it essential to implement policies that encourage the incorporation of new hunters and recognize hunting as an essential tool for territorial management, especially to prevent health risks such as African Swine Fever (ASF).
The group also demands direct aid for hunting societies, especially those affected by restrictions around Collserola, as the loss of members threatens the viability of the entire wildlife management system.
