The Metges de Catalunya union has called a weekly strike starting February 16 across Catalonia, coordinated with the national stoppage, to demand its own labor agreement and professional improvements.

The Metges de Catalunya (MC) union has announced that, despite joining the national strike call, it will maintain its own mobilization to directly address the Departament de Salut (Health Department) of the Generalitat. This stoppage, which is also expected to begin in February, seeks to maintain pressure on the Catalan administration.

Without prejudice to the national mobilization, in which it also participates, it does not renounce its own call for action in Catalonia.

The main objective of the mobilizations is to secure a specific agreement for medical professionals, in addition to adopting effective measures against healthcare overload and professional exhaustion. The union warns Minister Olga Pané that she “cannot disengage from the conflict,” as the Generalitat holds full competence in the healthcare sector.
The national call, promoted by the Confederación Española de Sindicatos Médicos (CESM) and other organizations, foresees five weeks of stoppages: from February 16 to 20, March 16 to 20, April 27 to 30, May 18 to 22, and June 15 to 19. These actions are also framed within the denunciation of the obsolescence of the Framework Statute for health professionals, which has been in force for over 20 years.
