The Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) started water release maneuvers at the Oliana and Rialb dams this February to manage the rising flow of the Segre river.

Water reserves in the Segre basin have reached critical levels. Oliana is currently at 97% capacity with 82 cubic hectometers, while Rialb has reached 92% with 370 cubic hectometers of stored water.
To create space for incoming water from Pyrenean rainfall and low-altitude snowmelt, the CHE opened the Oliana spillway to release 31 cubic meters per second. Additionally, the Endesa hydroelectric plant is processing 56 cubic meters per second.
At Rialb, technicians used bottom outlets and spillways to discharge water. The combined release from the dam and the power plant currently totals 69 cubic meters per second to ensure safety downstream.
