The Medical Emergency System (SEM) has temporarily relocated one of its air bases to la Seu d'Urgell this Monday to maintain healthcare coverage during a reorganization of its helicopter fleet.

The Department of Health terminated its contract with the company Eliance, which managed two of the four medical helicopters in Catalonia. The provider failed to meet obligations regarding the replacement of aircraft during maintenance or technical failures.
Management has been urgently transferred to the firm SAF. While a fourth helicopter is expected to be operational by March, a contingency plan has been activated using the three available units based in la Seu d'Urgell, Girona, and Reus.
This strategic deployment aims to ensure rapid response times in remote areas. A new definitive tender for the four-helicopter service is expected to be implemented by 2027.
