The Fundació Sant Hospital de la Seu d'Urgell has signed an agreement with the Catalan Society of Health Mediation to use mediation as a peaceful resolution path for internal and patient disputes starting this year.

The medical center has decided to embrace this dialogue route to resolve conflicts that may arise both among professionals and in the relationship with patients. The implementation is framed within the new Organic Law 1/2025 on the Efficiency of the Public Justice Service, which represents a fundamental advance in promoting mediation.

"It is a useful option to avoid lawsuits, but its value lies primarily in the speed and satisfactory results it generates."

The manager of the Fundació Sant Hospital and director of the Alt Pirineu Hospital Network, Palmira Borràs, positively assessed that the Catalan Society of Health Mediation (SCMS) will provide “expertise and methodology” to the processes. This collaboration will allow for protocols that avoid rigorous punitive actions that impact individuals and the organization.
The initiative will now require training for the center's professionals, while the figure of the mediator will be incorporated in specific cases. Mediation is characterized by being an assisted, voluntary, and confidential negotiation, where the mediator is governed by the “win/win” principle.
Regarding this matter, the Sala de la Immaculada in La Seu d'Urgell hosted a conference titled “Mediation in the field of health: experiences and challenges,” promoted by the Fundació Sant Hospital within the framework of the European Mediation Week. The event included an institutional welcome by the Mayor, Joan Barrera.
