The politician and writer Aleix Sarri presents his essay 'Ànima de república' this Saturday, January 10 at the Biblioteca Sant Agustí in La Seu d'Urgell, conversing with historian Lluís Obiols.

The book, subtitled Crònica política de l'Estat català (1409-1714), examines the origin and evolution of historical conflicts between Catalonia and Castile, many of which, according to the author, are still relevant today. Sarri traces the root of this confrontation back to the death of King Martin the Humane on May 31, 1410.

"Since then, the relationship between Catalonia and Castile, and later with Spain, has been an endless spiral of confrontation and repression."

Sarri argues that the death of Martin the Humane meant that the Crown of Aragon passed into the hands of a "foreign king," a moment from which "the Castilianizing project went into overdrive." The work reviews the most notable episodes up to the year 1714, with the defeat in the War of the Spanish Succession.
Holding a degree in Biotechnology and a master's in International Relations, Aleix Sarri is currently the head of International Relations for Junts per Catalunya. Previously, he served as the international policy coordinator for the Generalitat during the mandate of President Quim Torra.
