The city of La Seu d'Urgell will commemorate World Cancer Day by illuminating the City Hall building in green and holding a lantern ceremony on February 4 at 7 PM.

The main event, organized by the Associació Contra el Càncer Alt Urgell (AECC), will be held in the Plaça dels Oms. In addition to the green lighting of the municipal façade, participants will light lanterns as a symbol of support for those fighting the disease.
As part of the preliminary awareness actions, patients and volunteers from the organization have created green eye masks that are being distributed among city establishments, aiming to visualize the day on social media platforms.

The green armband represents a collective gesture of support and solidarity with people with cancer, their families, and the professionals who accompany them.

This local mobilization is part of the “Bracelets of Hope” campaign by the Catalan Football Federation (FCF), where clubs like EDFOR in La Seu d'Urgell wore green armbands. The global objective of World Cancer Day, promoted by the UICC and the WHO, is to raise awareness about prevention.
Experts warn that, according to forecasts, by the year 2030, cancer will affect one in three women and one in two men. Therefore, the Association Against Cancer emphasizes three key axes: prevention (avoiding tobacco), early diagnosis through screening, and oncological research.
