The solidarity event took place at the main door of the town hall and was led by the mayor, Joan Barrera. Representatives from the government team, municipal groups, the municipal ombudsman, Anna Martí, and institutional staff also participated.
The municipal corporation adhered to the call made by the two main Catalan municipal entities, the Federació de Municipis de Catalunya (FMC) and the Associació Catalana de Municipis (ACM), to show support for the victims' families and the injured.
The disaster occurred on Sunday evening when an Iryo train operated by RENFE, traveling the Málaga-Madrid route, derailed and collided with an Alvia train heading to Huelva.
The latest provisional toll released on Monday morning is at least 39 dead and 122 injured people, 48 of whom were hospitalized, with 24 reported to be in serious condition.
