The appointment of art historian Teresa Font as the new director of the Seu d'Urgell Cathedral Museum was formalized by the Bishop of Urgell Josep-Lluís Serrano. Font will replace Father Josep Maria Mauri, who previously headed the institution, and her mandate is set for a period of four years.
Font has a long history within the Urgell museum institution, having been linked to it since 2013. During this decade, she served as a technician and was responsible for the management of the collections, covering both conservation and documentation.
Regarding her academic background, the new director holds degrees in History and Geography from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), specializing in Art History. Additionally, she holds a Master's degree in Pyrenees, Museology, and Cultural Heritage Management, also from the UB, and is a graduate in Arts and Crafts from the Escola Massana-Escola Llotja de Barcelona, specializing in engraving and painting.
The Seu Cathedral Museum, formerly known as the Diocesan Museum of Urgell, aims to preserve the sacred artistic assets of the cathedral and the churches of the diocese. This diocese covers an extensive territory including Alt Urgell, Alta Ribagorça, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Noguera, Cerdanya, part of Ripollès (the Vall de Ribes), and the northern parts of Pla d'Urgell, Urgell, and Segarra, as well as the Val d'Aran and the Principality of Andorra.
