The signing of this strategic agreement, which took place in La Seu d'Urgell, primarily aims at the valorization, conservation, and maintenance of the historical, architectural, artistic, and spiritual legacy of the churches in Valls d'Àneu. This collection includes some forty temples of great cultural and patrimonial value.
The event brought together key regional stakeholders, including Josep Maria Mauri, heritage delegate for the Diocese of Urgell, and the mayors of Alt Àneu (Josep Rossell), Espot (Josep Maria Sebastia), Esterri d'Àneu (Pere Ticó), and La Guingueta d'Àneu (Jordi Pallé). Also present were Andreu Rodríguez, rector of the parishes of Valls d'Àneu; Jordi Abella, director of the Ecomuseum of Valls d'Àneu; and Ferran Rella, president of the Cultural Council of Valls d'Àneu.
The presence of Joan Ganyet, Commissioner of the Government of the Generalitat for Inter-Pyrenean Relations, underscored the agreement's significance. Ganyet highlighted that the unification of agents in this new joint commission is crucial for more effective protection of the Pyrenean legacy.
“"The unification of agents in this new joint commission is key for a more effective protection of the Pyrenean legacy."
The central point of the agreement is the creation of a joint commission that will meet at least once a year to coordinate maintenance tasks and promote cultural, social, and artistic activities. The agreement places special emphasis on balancing tourist and cultural dynamism with the original nature of the spaces, ensuring the sacred character of the temples and their responsible use as living places of worship for local communities.
The Bishop of Urgell, Josep-Lluís Serrano, encouraged the signatories to work together to enhance the art of Valls d'Àneu, expressing his firm commitment to supporting these agreements to allow all residents and visitors of the region to enjoy this heritage, projecting it towards future generations.
