The Unió de Pagesos union has called four public information sessions in the mountain regions, including el Pont de Suert on January 29, to discuss cuts to Agricultural Social Security, the new CAP, and generational replacement issues.

The informative sessions, which will take place in La Seu d'Urgell, Ger, Sort, and el Pont de Suert, aim to review the main problems affecting farmers in the mountain regions. The meetings are scheduled for Thursday, January 29 and Wednesday, February 4.
One of the key points is the warning about the new calculation model for Agricultural Social Security, which entails significant decreases in various benefits. It is estimated that retirement and permanent disability pensions could suffer cuts of close to 34%.

Widowhood benefits will experience a drop of between 32 and 43%, while temporary incapacity benefits, whether due to common illness or work accident, will be reduced by 32%.

Regarding the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the union expresses concern about the co-financing proposal, which leaves the funding of aid in the hands of member states. This change, combined with international trade treaties, could “jeopardize the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and the food sovereignty of the continent”.
Finally, aids recently approved by the Government to promote generational replacement will be presented. These funds, stemming from proposals by Unió de Pagesos, seek to facilitate the transfer of farms between retiring older farmers and young people entering the sector, including increasing the base premium and creating a fund for unused land.
