The Investigation Unit of the Igualada police station began the investigation in late September, following information about the possible existence of an intensive marijuana cultivation operation in a farmhouse in Castellolí. After several weeks of monitoring, the evidence led to a judicial entry and search on the morning of February 4.
Inside the dwelling, ten rooms dedicated to cultivation were found, containing a total of 606 marijuana plants and 110 seedlings. Furthermore, 1.842 kg of buds, 1.066 kg of shredded marijuana, and 1 kg of hashish were seized, along with a press for manipulating the drug and 5,360 euros in cash.
“"According to official estimates, the value of the drug on the wholesale market would amount to approximately 177,896 euros, and it was primarily destined for the international market."
All cultivation rooms featured a complex installation with light screens, fans, odor filters, and air conditioning units. The electricity supply was tampered with, registering consumption up to ten times higher than that of a normal dwelling, which is why they are also charged with electricity fraud.
The four detainees, aged between 36 and 44, some with previous records, were arrested for the aforementioned crimes. It is noteworthy that in the same farmhouse, the Mossos had already dismantled a similar plantation in April 2023, where 931 plants were seized and two people were arrested.
