The unions USTEC, CCOO, UGT, CGT, and Professors de Secundària have called a general strike in Catalonia's educational centers for February 11 due to the Department of Education's failure to offer salary proposals.

The union organizations announced the stoppage after the first meeting with the Department of Education to negotiate working conditions. The main demand was to double the specific autonomous complement to raise the salary of the entire teaching staff, but the Ministry did not present any concrete proposal in this regard.

"The Department has brought us a non-existent proposal, zero, no proposal on these fundamental issues."

This strike on February 11 could be the start of a cycle of stoppages, according to the unions, who will hold a first mobilization on January 24. The General Secretary of Professors de Secundària, Ignasi Fernández, accused the Ministry of having "skipped all the rules of the basic negotiation manual" by offering "zero" to their request for a 100% increase in the complement.

"When a person goes to a negotiation and offers you zero, it means they do not want to negotiate."

In addition to the salary issue, the Department of Education announced that it will finally not call the autonomous transfer competition this academic year, contrary to what had been announced. The Ministry justifies the decision by the need to "prioritize" the stability of the teaching staff after the "exceptional" stabilization process of recent years.
