The premiere of the work, the result of the creative partnership between Joan Valentí (from Igualada) and David Pintó (from Manresa), arrives at a moment considered opportune to combat the “unusual and unheard-of claims” of younger generations who deny the harshness of the Franco dictatorship.
Those who do not know their history are condemned to repeat it.
The production Dones del 36 focuses on the silenced protagonists, highlighting their struggle and strength in the face of adversity. The narrative includes the antecedents of the Civil War and its consequences to emphasize the lives of these women, following the historical commitment initiated with Mort a les cunetes.
The play rescues specific names such as Concha Pérez Collado, the anarchist Marina Ginestà (photographed by Hans Gutmann), Ana Garbín Alonso ('the Anarchist Madonna'), the brigade nurse Salaria Kea, and victims like Carme Claramunt Barot, the first woman executed at Camp de Bota.
On a scenic level, the play uses an agile and rhythmic format, allowing for dramaturgical licenses such as the ridicule and exposure of the figure of Maria Topete, director of the Maternal Prison of San Isidro y Las Ventas, known for the theft of children until 1995.
