Igualada Firefighters Carried Out 1,312 Operations in 2025, a 21% Increase from Previous Year

The rise in emergency services in the Anoia region was driven by the major electrical blackout in April and intense flooding episodes in July.

The Igualada Fire Station recorded 1,312 urgent operations during 2025 in the Anoia region, a significant increase primarily caused by the electrical blackout and severe rainfall.

This figure represents a 21.65% increase compared to the previous year, 2024, when 1,128 services were performed. Across Catalonia, the Bombers de la Generalitat carried out 62,639 urgent operations, reflecting a general rise in service demand.
The most demanded service type in Anoia was rescues (salvaments), totaling 385 operations. This category includes natural environment rescues, door openings, and animal rescues, showing a notable increase from the 310 services registered in 2024.

The widespread electrical blackout on April 28 and the heavy rains in July were the most significant episodes that boosted the number of rescue operations in the region.

The blackout on April 28 was particularly impactful, leading to 67 rescues of people trapped in elevators in Anoia, more than double the 30 cases recorded in 2024. Rescues carried out in the Montserrat Mountain Natural Park, especially within the municipality of El Bruc, were also highlighted.
Other types of emergencies included technical assistance, with 323 services (up from 227 in 2024), and urban fires, with 297 services. Regarding vegetation fires, 76 services were recorded, including the fire on July 8 in Sant Pere Sallavinera, which affected about 130 hectares.
