Ten individuals with intellectual disabilities from the Àuria Foundation are working as information guides at the Igualada University Hospital to help patients navigate the facility during ongoing renovations.

The collaboration started last October following the commencement of construction at the Medical Day Hospital. Instead of relying solely on signs, the hospital management in Igualada chose a more human approach to ensure patients remain well-oriented during their visit.

"It was a great challenge and I have overcome it."

The program has proven successful in boosting the participants' communication skills and autonomy. Consequently, the hospital plans to extend the partnership into the third quarter of 2026, coinciding with upcoming works in the Pharmacy and Emergency departments.
This initiative, part of Àuria's labor orientation services, aims to provide practical experience for people with mental health challenges and disabilities in the Anoia region, showcasing their capabilities to the local community.
