The Igualada City Council has presented a new urban garden area in the Rec neighborhood, adding 21 new plots to the existing 37, bringing the total to 58. This space also includes a family leisure area with children's games.

The Councilor for Sustainability, Jordi Marcè, explained that the objective is to consolidate the healthy city model, promoting local food, well-being, social cohesion, and environmental education. This strategy is reflected in various municipal actions, such as the renaturalization of green spaces and support for the Conca d’Òdena Agricultural Park.
As part of this commitment, the tender for the expansion of the municipal urban garden network has been opened. Marcè highlighted that urban gardens demonstrate how small daily actions build a greener, healthier city with more community life, which is key for Igualada's future.
The new tender adds 21 gardens to the existing 37, creating a total of 58 plots. The distribution includes 22 for individuals over 18 years old, 22 for unemployed or retired individuals with low incomes, 8 for non-profit organizations and schools, and 6 reserved for the City Council for the Food Bank and educational workshops.
The application submission period opened on November 3rd and will remain open until November 23rd. The initial annual fee is €85, subject to IPC updates. Preference will be given to new applicants, and previous holders will be prioritized for their previously cultivated plots if interested.
