The municipal government of Igualada has justified the 4,000 euro expenditure on a private dinner to celebrate Igualada HC's WSE Cup victory, following criticism from the Poble Actiu group.

The controversy arose following the complaint by Poble Actiu, which demanded explanations from the Igualada government for allocating 4,000 euros of public funds to a celebration dinner for the success of Igualada HC in winning the WSE Cup.

"It was a show of unconditional support for the effort of the players and the board, and a deserved return for a job well done that benefits the city."

The local government, while not directly mentioning the exact cost of the dinner, emphasized the economic return that hosting the European hockey finals brought to the capital of Anoia.
According to the executive, the event generated a “significant positive economic impact” for local commerce, hospitality, and services. Furthermore, they assured that the expenditure generated by the celebration of these major sporting events was entirely covered by subsidies from other administrations, naming the Diputació de Barcelona and the Generalitat.
