The French capital experienced one of the most intense snowfalls in recent years last Monday, with a white layer up to three centimeters deep covering emblematic sites such as the Eiffel Tower gardens. This situation forced the Paris Police Prefect to ask citizens to limit travel.
Transport incidents were immediate. Public bus service in the Île-de-France region was interrupted, and airlines at Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports had to reduce the number of flights by 15%. On the roads, the Bison Futé service recorded over 1,050 kilometers of traffic jams, an exceptional figure.
“"Circulation conditions could continue to be difficult until tomorrow morning."
Due to the collapse, the Paris Police Prefect limited the speed to 80 km/h across the region and banned the circulation of heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tons. This restriction extended to other areas of northern France, such as Brittany and Normandy, after Météo France activated the orange alert for snow and ice in 23 departments starting Sunday.
