The municipality of Piera received on September 29 the visit of the Secretary of State for Youth and Childhood of the Spanish Government, Rubén Pérez Correa. The day was dedicated to gaining firsthand knowledge of the municipality's reception resources, children's participation spaces, and the challenges faced by local entities in ensuring the inclusion of all children and young people.
Accompanied by the Councilor for Education and Childhood of the Piera City Council, Gemma Millán Gibert, the Secretary of State participated in a work agenda focused on the care of children and adolescents, with special emphasis on newly arrived children and young people and those in vulnerable situations.
The institutional visit began at the Castell del Fang center, a First Reception and Comprehensive Care Service (SPAAI) managed by Suara Cooperativa. This service offers socio-educational support and guidance to young people to foster their social and cultural integration, personal skills development, and autonomy.
The center's management and professional team explained the functioning and spaces of the facilities, delving into the reception and support work carried out.
Subsequently, the day moved to the Plenary Hall of the City Council, where a session of the Consell d'Infants de Piera (Piera Children's Council) was being held. This meeting served to highlight this citizen participation space where children express their concerns and proposals, promoting their involvement in the life of the municipality.
The final meeting took place at the Espai Jove (Youth Space), bringing together local entities to address the inclusion of newly arrived children and young people and those in vulnerable situations in educational leisure activities. The objective was to identify necessary resources, learn about existing initiatives, and gather proposals to ensure universal access to these activities.
The meeting also highlighted the difficulties entities face in promoting this inclusion, and experiences were exchanged to overcome barriers to accessing educational leisure. The day underscored the importance of collaboration between administrations, professionals, and the associative fabric to foster the reception, participation, and equal opportunities for the young people of Piera.
