The Parliament of Catalonia approved a landmark law this Wednesday to recognize the unique legal and administrative status of the Val d'Aran, strengthening its self-government.

The bill, supported by 109 lawmakers, prevents the Conselh Generau d'Aran from being treated as a regular local municipality. This change addresses long-standing issues in managing healthcare and social services under restrictive local government regulations.

"Today is a historic day for Aran because we have taken a definitive step to make our singularity useful for our citizens."

Maria Vergés · Síndica of Aran
In addition to the legal victory, a new funding agreement with the Generalitat is expected to reach 43 million euros. This represents a 4 million euro increase aimed at securing public services across the territory.
