The Parliament of Catalonia approved on February 12 the fast-track processing of the bill recognizing the uniqueness of Aran, receiving 107 votes in favor from most political groups.

The proposal, supported by PSC, Junts, ERC, and other parties, aims to ensure that Aran's legal status has practical applications within the Catalan regulatory framework.

"The goal is to ensure that the legal recognition of Aran's uniqueness is not merely decorative but has a practical and effective application."

Josep Rull · President of the Parliament
The law modifies the Local Government Act to establish that general legislation will only apply to Aran and the Conselh Generau in the absence of specific local regulations.
Parliamentary groups have until Friday to submit amendments. Speaker Josep Rull conducted part of the session in the Aranese language to highlight the region's distinct cultural identity.
