The Department of Business and Labor presented this week the public holiday calendar for 2027, after receiving approval from Catalonia's economic and social agents, including Foment del Treball, Pimec, CC OO, and UGT. This document establishes a total of 14 public holidays, 12 of which are already defined, with two more to be designated by local councils.
Among the peculiarities of the upcoming year, it stands out that five of the holidays will fall on a weekend. Specifically, Labor Day (May 1), La Diada (September 11), and Christmas (December 25) will be on a Saturday. Additionally, August 15 and Sant Esteve will fall on a Sunday, meaning they will not be moved to a weekday.
Of the 14 total holidays, nine are national and mandatory, unless they fall on a Sunday, as is the case with August 15. Three are regional holidays, added by the Generalitat: Easter Monday (March 29), Sant Joan (June 24), and La Diada (September 11). In the Val d'Aran, Easter Monday on March 29 will be replaced by the Festa d'Aran on June 17.
Despite several holidays coinciding with the weekend, the 2027 calendar will offer some opportunities for long weekends. For example, Constitution Day (December 6) will fall on a Monday and the Immaculate Conception (December 8) on a Wednesday, facilitating a long break. Likewise, October 12 will be a Tuesday, January 1 a Friday, and November 1 a Monday.
