The Vielha e Mijaran City Council has started installing anti-slip mesh on several wooden footbridges near the Nere and Garona rivers to improve pedestrian safety during the winter season.

High humidity and freezing temperatures in the Aran region significantly increase the risk of slipping on wooden surfaces. Previously, the council applied anti-slip paint every summer, but its effectiveness wore off quickly under harsh winter conditions.
This new pilot project introduces a durable mesh fixed to the wood, providing better grip year-round. The initiative is part of the local Carrèr a Carrèr campaign, aimed at the continuous improvement of public spaces and urban infrastructure.
Work is being carried out progressively to minimize disruption. Local authorities advise residents to walk with caution and respect all safety signs. The performance of this new solution will be officially evaluated at the end of the winter period.
