The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men, aged 28 and 42, in Balsareny between January 21 and 23 as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health involving massive marijuana cultivation.

Agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra traveled to a property in Balsareny on Wednesday, January 21, alerted by neighbors who suspected illicit activity. When the patrol requested identification from one occupant, he fled inside the house. A second individual authorized entry, at which point the agents confirmed the strong smell of marijuana and saw small plants.
Following the first man's escape, agents arrested the second individual for a crime against public health and guarded the premises pending a judicial search warrant. That same night, the Mossos located the fugitive hiding in a shed in a nearby garden. The man threatened the officers with a rake before giving up.
Upon identifying the fugitive, the Mossos confirmed that he had an outstanding judicial warrant for arrest and imprisonment, in addition to being arrested for crimes against public health and threats. Finally, on Friday, January 23, the judicial entry and search of the dwelling were carried out.
Inside, agents located a total of 1,401 plants in the initial growth phase and 1,187 plants in the drying process, totaling nearly 2,600 units. A complex installation with fans, air conditioning units, and spotlights, designed to optimize the illicit cultivation, was also dismantled.
The two detainees were brought before the duty investigating court in Manresa on Saturday, January 24.
