The town of Cardona will host the V International Congress on Salt from June 4 to 7, an event organized by scientific societies and the Cardona Historical Foundation to analyze mining heritage.

This edition, coinciding with the Salt Festival (Festa de la Sal), is the fifth in the series, following previous events in Ciempozuelos (Madrid) in 2006 and 2018, Peralta de la Sal (Huesca) in 2019, and Rio Maior (Portugal) in 2024. The congress is driven by SEDPGYM and SIGMADOT.

"We want to cover the cultural value of salt in the past through geological, historical, and archaeological research, without losing sight of the current reality of salt exploitations that still persist and their social valuation."

Andreu Galera · President of the Scientific Committee of the congress
The congress is expected to bring together about eighty experts from diverse fields such as geology, engineering, archaeology, history, and biology. The overall goal is to disseminate knowledge about salt and its role, especially within the unique setting of the Cardona salt mine and its Salt Mountain.

"The combination of knowledge exchange and networking with tourism and the recreational and cultural activities of the Salt Festival creates a high-quality offer that allows us to value our heritage from different perspectives."

Francesc Ponsa · General Director of the Cardona Historical Foundation
In addition to the scientific program, the congress will offer guided tours to key sites such as the Cardona Castle, the Josep Arnau Salt Museum, and the Salí de Cambrils, thus highlighting the industrial and mining past of the ducal town.
