Aliança Catalana vice-president Jordi Soteras will join the Santpedor town council this Tuesday, filling a vacancy left by Junts per Catalunya after a series of resignations from their electoral list.

The municipal politics of Santpedor are facing a tense moment as the far-right party Aliança Catalana enters the local council. Jordi Soteras, who was ninth on the Junts list during the 2023 elections, will accept the seat despite having switched his political affiliation.
The vacancy arose after Junts decided to leave the local government on November 14. Following the resignation of the then-Culture councillor and several other candidates on the list, the position fell to Soteras, who currently serves as the vice-president of Aliança Catalana in the Bages region.

"Esquerra asks him to resign his seat because he now represents symbols that are not what the people of Santpedor voted for."

The council meeting scheduled for this Tuesday at 7:00 PM is expected to be controversial. A demonstration has been called at the Plaça Gran U d'Octubre to protest against what local parties describe as political opportunism.
