The mobilization, which began at 5:00 PM on Thursday on the C-16, brought together farmers from Bages, Anoia, Osona, and Berguedà. Participants, members of the organization Revolta Pagesa, aim to project a "vision of strength" to convey their message to Brussels, believing that local politicians are not listening.
“"We are selling off food sovereignty at a European level and, with this agreement, we are throwing ourselves off a cliff."
Farmers sharply criticize that the EU-Mercosur agreement allows the import of food from outside without strict controls, while local farmers are subjected to all European regulations. This situation is viewed as "hypocrisy" on the part of the European Union.
“"For now, we have started an indefinite protest; we will see how it develops and how many people join, and see if we manage to make politicians react."
The protest, described as “indefinite,” is expected to last through the night. Demonstrators, such as Pere Noguera, a farmer from Prats de Lluçanès, argue that the EU is "very hypocritical" because it "wants to allow anything produced in any manner to be imported; it is a blatant deception."
