The Catalan Government presented on Friday a significant budget increase for the Interior Department, aiming to add nearly 2,000 new members to the region's security and emergency corps in 2026.

The 2.352 billion euro budget represents a 35% rise compared to previous years. This funding will support the recruitment of 1,587 Mossos d'Esquadra officers, 300 firefighters, and 100 rural agents. The plan focuses on modernizing equipment and adapting public services to current security demands and climate change challenges.
Investment also covers the acquisition of nearly 500 new police vehicles and over 100 fire trucks. Infrastructure projects include the completion of fire stations in Tarragona and Terrassa, as well as regional headquarters in Sant Fruitós de Bages. Additionally, 7,000 bulletproof vests will be purchased for the police force.
The Justice Department budget will also grow by 22%, reaching 1.392 billion euros. Key investments include 39 million euros for prison facilities and 21 million for judicial buildings, including the start of the Justice Forum in Tarragona and improvements to courts in Sabadell and Cervera.
