Minister Sílvia Paneque formally constituted Rodalies de Catalunya SME SA at the Ministry of Territory this Friday, January 16, 2026, the mixed company with a Renfe majority, promising work and dedication to improve the service.

The notary signing for the constitution of the new Rodalies company took place in the map room on the seventh floor of the Ministry of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition at 10:59 a.m. The state mercantile society, with a majority held by Renfe (50.1%) over the Government (49.9%), appointed its nine members to the board of directors, alongside the president of Renfe, Álvaro Fernández Heredia, and the dean of Catalan notaries, José Alberto Marín.

"We do not promise miracles, but we do promise work and dedication."

In addition to Minister Sílvia Paneque, who also serves as president of the society, Òscar Playà was appointed CEO of Rodalies de Catalunya. Playà, formerly director of TMB Metro, will dedicate himself exclusively to «improving the reliability, information, and daily incidents of the trains». The physical structure will be located on Tarradellas avenue, opposite Sants, but it will not function fully as such until at least 2027, pending relevant permits.
The path to the signing has been long, starting with the transfer of Rodalies in 2010, which only allowed for timetable management. The constitution of the mixed company is the result of negotiations between ERC and Pedro Sánchez in November 2023, later ratified by the legislative agreement with Salvador Illa.

It is not just a slogan, an easy promise, a box with a bow, it is a structural change in management, but this does not change overnight.

The Minister emphasized that today lays the foundation for a better future, highlighting the importance of proximity in management. Among those most satisfied were the commissioner for the integral transfer of Rodalies, Pere Macias, and the former Secretary of Infrastructure and Mobility, Marc Sanglas, both members of the new board of directors.
