Dolors Casas i Pujol passed away this Tuesday at 69 years old in Manresa, following a nine-year battle with cancer. Born in Sallent and a resident of Manresa since age nine, she came from a family with a strong musical tradition. The farewell ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 3:30 PM at the Nou Tanatori Manresa, located in the Congost area.
Her extensive professional career was deeply linked to music education. She was one of the founders of the Esclat de Manresa school half a century ago, where she also taught. Starting in 1982, she joined the prestigious Conservatori Municipal de Música de Manresa as a violin professor.
In addition to her teaching work, in late 1975, Casas was one of the driving forces behind the Obrador Instrumental del Bages, a project that brought together young musicians from the region. As an instrumentalist, she collaborated with groups such as Coses, Celdoni Fonoll, and Barbaroig, and participated in performances by major orchestras like the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC) and the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (OSV).
Dolors Casas was the sister of the renowned composer and pianist Carles Cases. She was married to cultural activist Joan Morros i Torné, with whom she would have celebrated fifty years of marriage in July. Her mother, Angelina Pujol, who will turn 102 on January 31, taught her the first musical notes when Dolors was very young.
