More than 300 people gathered inside and around Bloc 8 in Manresa on Monday morning, forcing the judicial commission to leave the site. This marks the third time the eviction of the building, occupied by eight families including eight minors, has been paralyzed.
“"It was stopped by the struggle and popular pressure."
An important police deployment, including about twenty ARRO vehicles of the Mossos d’Esquadra, had been in place since early morning. The PAHC Bages called the concentration, with a hundred people spending the night in the building and about 200 more gathered at the entrance.
Yuli, the resident who was facing eviction, expressed her gratitude and called for “continuing the fight” so that the property passes to the City Council and ceases to belong to the vulture fund. The TSJC had previously reported that the judge rejected the tenant's vulnerability claim, based on a Social Services report.
“"We are fighting families and we need social housing because this block belongs to us."
The Manresa City Council was strongly opposed to the eviction and regretted that the property had increased the sale price by 200,000 euros after an initial commitment. The council has now decided to exercise its right of first refusal, opening a negotiation process for the purchase of the building.
