A total of 15 people were treated for smoke inhalation this Friday following a fire in the cargo hold of the Golden Bridge ferry during its route from Barcelona to Palma.

The incident began around 6:30 AM while the GNV shipping line vessel was carrying 172 people, including 126 passengers and 46 crew members. The fire was localized in a truck within the hold when the ship was approximately 50 minutes away from the Port of Palma.
Maritime Rescue deployed the Helimer 203 helicopter and two rescue boats to escort the ferry to the dock. Upon arrival, Palma Firefighters secured the area and ventilated the ship to clear the accumulated smoke.

"When we reached Dragonera, we were escorted by a Maritime Rescue boat and a helicopter."
