A report by Cory's Investigació i Conservació de la Biodiversitat has warned about the rise of Rose-ringed parakeets and American minks in Manresa this February 2026.

The Cardener river environment is facing a significant ecological challenge. Researchers Marc Illa Llobet and Aïda Sabaté Ripollès found that the parakeet population in the city's roosting site doubled between 2023 and 2025, reaching 145 individuals.

"It is a species clearly on the rise and a major ecological problem at a regional level."

The study also confirms the presence of the American mink and feral cats in areas like Can Poc Oli. These predators unbalance the ecosystem by hunting local fauna. Additionally, the Red-cheeked cordon-bleu is spreading across the Bages region, aided by rising winter temperatures.
