The legend of the last Templar knight, persecuted by the Church and the French monarchy, tells of his hidden life as a hermit in Sant Pere del Gaià and his end at the Santes Creus monastery.

The history of the Order of the Temple, marked by the persecution of the Pope of Rome, the Holy Office, and the King of France, led many knights to their deaths. However, thanks to the discreet protection of King James II the Just, some Templars managed to escape, entering the monastery of Santes Creus under false identities. With them came relics and treasures they had guarded for centuries.
Among these knights, one maintained his secret identity until the end: the last hermit of Sant Pere del Gaià. Protected by the monarch and the monks of Santes Creus from the Holy Inquisition, this hermit continued to practice the rule of the Temple in secrecy. The few monks who had contact with him informed him periodically: "Everything is well, Father Abbot. We are passing him off as an anchorite hermit. He lives alone. He dedicates himself to prayer. To contemplation. To penance. He lives a saintly life, Father Abbot."
When he found himself nearing his earthly end, the hermit expressed his wish to become a monk at Santes Creus. "Dear Abbot, I am the last Templar knight. I am grateful that you have allowed me to stay all these years at the hermitage, doing what my brothers did. But I no longer have the strength to continue. Now I would like to come and live at Santes Creus," he stated.
And so it was that the last Templar left the hermitage of Sant Pere del Gaià. According to legend, on the day of his death, a powerful celestial ray emerged from his body, visible in many villages of the region. The locals interpreted it as a divine sign: "Look, look! A miraculous light is coming from Santes Creus and going towards the hermitage of Sant Pere!" "That is the sign of when a saint dies." "God bless the good hermit who lived in Sant Pere. He was very old and wanted to spend his final days at Santes Creus."
In homage to the last Templar knight, numerous locals began a procession towards the monastery, making a prior stop at the hermitage of Sant Pere.
