Neither social pressure nor efforts by Manresa City Council and other Administration bodies have managed to stop the eviction of the building, which is owned by the Cerberus fund and managed by the real estate company Solvia. The property, abandoned for 15 years, was occupied by six families in 2021.
The property had committed to the City Council to put the building up for sale for 450,000 euros, but now demands 650,000 and has not paralyzed the eviction planned for one of the homes.
The council recalled that when the owner put the eight-unit block up for sale, both the City Council, the Catalan Housing Agency (Agència Catalana de l'Habitatge), and a social foundation attempted to exercise the right of first refusal to purchase the property and regularize the residents' situation. Attempts were also made this week to request a judicial suspension from the owner, without success.
The PAHC (Platform for People Affected by Mortgages and Crisis) has called for a citizen mobilization that includes musical performances and a popular dinner on Sunday, with the intention that as many people as possible spend the night at Block 8 to try and prevent the eviction. The presence of ARRO agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra police force is anticipated.
