The agreement to appoint engineer Òscar Playà, originally from Sant Vicenç de Castellet, was reached jointly between the Catalan Government (Govern) and ERC, and received the endorsement of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. This decision was made public last Monday via a statement from the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition.
Playà, who currently serves as the General Director of the Barcelona Metro Network (TMB), will assume a key dual function. He will be the head (CEO) of the recently created joint venture Rodalies de Catalunya and, simultaneously, the person responsible for the operational management of Renfe Catalunya.
“"Proximity improves the service."
According to the Department of Territory, this unification of roles seeks “to apply a new governance collaboratively with Renfe workers.” Last week, Secretary of State José Antonio Santano had already announced that the CEO of Rodalies would also assume the management of Renfe Catalunya.
The demand for unified management had been previously expressed by ERC spokesperson in the Parliament, Ester Capella, to Minister Sílvia Paneque, following service problems and dismissals caused by the chaos resulting from the accident in Gelida and the storm Harry.
