The Mossos d'Esquadra launched a maritime search operation this Thursday to locate James 'Jimmy' Gracey, a 20-year-old student who went missing early Tuesday morning in the Vila Olímpica area of Barcelona.

The investigation has shifted towards the Barcelona coastline with the activation of Aquatic and Underwater Units, alongside the Drone Unit. Officers are working to confirm if the young man, from Elmhurst (Chicago), entered the water after leaving the Shoko nightclub around 3:00 AM.
Security camera footage shows that Gracey did not leave the venue alone, although his companion has not yet been identified. The University of Alabama student had arrived in the Catalan capital on Monday from Amsterdam to visit friends during spring break.

"We ask anyone who has seen Jimmy or has any information to get in touch. Jimmy is a kind, responsible son; it is completely out of character for him not to communicate."

Gracey Family · Official Statement
The family reported that police have the young man's mobile phone, a detail not yet officially confirmed by the Mossos. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white t-shirt, dark pants, and a gold chain with a cross. The case is receiving significant coverage from US media outlets including NBC and CBS.
