The new public space in Sallent has been established around the new elderly residence, built on the site of the old factory. Although the residential facility is not yet operational, the completion of the building works and the consolidation of the old factory's façade have allowed this new area to be opened to the urban core.
The project materialized in the creation of a new square situated between the Cal Carrera cultural facility and the new residence. Additionally, a pedestrian walkway has been constructed, connecting the new bridge (known as the Concòrdia Bridge) directly to this new square, thereby improving circulation between the different points.
Continuity has also been provided to the itinerary running from the Oasis area (Torre del Gas) to the old factory façade. This naturalized space includes the exhibition of the original turbine, recovered during the start of the works, emphasizing Sallent's industrial heritage.
Regarding the residence itself, the City Council is confident that it can begin operating during the last quarter of this year, although prudence is maintained regarding the schedule due to the need to fully equip the interior. The new building will have a total capacity for 90 residents and will significantly multiply the current service space.
The commissioning will be progressive, starting with the transfer of the 52 current users from the Sant Bernat residence. Furthermore, the new facility will include a day center that will expand its capacity from the current 13 places to a total of 30, operating at full capacity from day one.
