The Súria Town Council has launched a new waste tax model this year in the Bages region, designed to encourage better recycling through a variable fee system.

The system uses data from smart containers installed last year, which require a digital card or mobile app to open. Residents who consistently separate their organic waste will maintain the standard rate, while those who fail to recycle correctly may face higher costs.

"It is the first time the Council has incorporated calculation criteria that take into account good selective collection practices."

Montserrat Albacete · Councillor for the Environment
This initiative follows similar models in nearby towns like Fonollosa and Balsareny. The ordinance includes social reductions for specific cases, such as households generating high volumes of sanitary waste or secondary residences with low occupancy.
