Teachers and professors from Central Catalonia started a lock-in this Tuesday at the Pius Font i Quer Institute in Manresa to demand better working conditions and more funding for public education.

The mobilization, organized by the Assemblea de Docents de la Catalunya Central, began with an informative assembly followed by a community dinner. Participants plan to spend the night at the school in Manresa before traveling together to Barcelona this Wednesday to join the large-scale demonstration scheduled for noon.

"The LEC is still being violated regarding investment, we are far from the 6% of GDP required by law, and we are suffering a loss of democracy in schools."

Educators are denouncing the degradation of the Catalan educational system due to chronic underfunding and policies that have created staff instability. Key demands include recovering purchasing power lost since 2009, reducing student-to-teacher ratios, and increasing resources for inclusive education.
This lock-in at the Pius Font i Quer Institute follows a protest march held last Thursday through the center of Manresa. Under slogans such as 'Fewer speeches and more resources,' professionals are demanding concrete answers from the Department of Education to reduce bureaucratic workload and ensure internal democracy in schools.
