The two climbers were rescued on Saturday on Montgròs, within the municipality of El Bruc, after becoming immobilized by snow and extreme weather conditions. They had spent the night in the cave on the Griviola Vella route, just before the penultimate anchor point.
The alert was received at 9:51 a.m., when the climbers confirmed that the wind, snow, and poor visibility prevented them from retreating or continuing the ascent. The situation required the activation of a large-scale rescue operation.
The Generalitat Firefighters mobilized seven units, including personnel from the GRAE (Special Actions Group) and a helicopter. The ascent had to be made on foot from Santa Cecília due to the very adverse conditions: snow, wind, and visibility reduced to only ten meters, which complicated the exact location of the cave.
Shortly after three in the afternoon, the teams managed to reach the climbers, secure them, and complete a maneuver to lift them to the summit. Subsequently, the helicopter performed several hoists to evacuate both the climbers and the GRAE personnel. No injuries were reported.
