Municipal groups from Alternativa per Sant Joan, Compromís amb Sant Joan, Junts, ERC, and a non-attached councilor issued a joint statement rejecting the PSC's attitude during the January 29 plenary session regarding the new door-to-door waste collection system.

The conflict has arisen in Sant Joan just days before the implementation of the door-to-door waste collection system, scheduled for Monday, February 16. The signing parties regret that the PSC, the main opposition party, is now questioning a model that was approved with the support of 13 out of 17 councilors in the plenary session on March 21, 2024.

The PSC falsifies and lies when discussing the survey conducted during the previous mandate regarding citizens' preferences for one collection model or another.

The groups reproach the PSC for the methods used during the plenary session, accusing them of “fostering disorder and tension and creating an unacceptable atmosphere of hostility”. Furthermore, they recall that the socialist spokesperson, Elia Tortolero, was the Councilor for Citizen Participation and responsible for the citizen consultation that served as the basis for adopting the model during the spring of 2023.
The Councilor for Environment, Toni Dorado, insisted that there is no turning back on the implementation of the door-to-door system, as there is a five-year contract awarded and the company has already made the necessary investment. Any halt would entail economic costs that would directly affect the population.
Meanwhile, residents of Sant Joan have called a demonstration for next Monday at 6:30 PM, from the CAP square to the Town Hall, to express their rejection of the new system, citing drawbacks such as restricted schedules and privacy concerns.
