The agreed format for these stoppages is one week of strike per month, a mobilization that will begin in February and will extend, in principle, until June as the first phase of the protest. This action is taken in rejection of the draft Health Statute, which the collective considers insufficient for their working conditions.
The Strike Committee includes the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM), the Andalusian Medical Union (SMA), Metges de Catalunya (MC), the Association of Doctors and Senior Graduates of Madrid (AMYTS), the Medical Union of Euskadi (SME), and the Independent Faculty Union of Galicia (O’MEGA).
The stoppages are scheduled for five specific weeks: February 16 to 20, March 16 to 20, April 27 to 30, May 18 to 22, and June 15 to 19. Additionally, a unified demonstration has been called for Saturday, February 14, in Madrid as the starting point for the mobilizations.
The unions insist that they maintain their willingness to dialogue, hoping that the Ministry of Health reconsiders resuming conversations that allow joint progress in the search for agreements to improve the working conditions of professionals.
The organizers remind that their demands affect both the ministry led by Mónica García and other departments and regional health councils, demanding that each actor take responsibility for their competence to address medical and faculty demands and maintain a sustainable and quality National Health System.
