The breakthrough of Gerard Fernández into the first team has been extremely accelerated, accumulating 17 appearances with the professionals compared to 15 games (11 with the junior and 4 with the U-22) with the youth teams. This situation, according to coach Diego Ocampo, has been "circumstantial" and is explained by the plague of injuries that affected the exterior line of the Bages team at the beginning of the season.
“"We work so that our young players can perform at a high level in the ACB when they are 21 or 22 years old. This is our objective."
Despite the acceleration, Ocampo calls for patience, noting that these growth processes “can also slow down” and his participation in tournaments like the Euroleague NextGen in Ulm is part of his development. Fernández, along with Lucas Sánchez (both from the 2008 generation), was already training with the first team dynamic last season, alternating minutes in the Tercera FEB league.
His consistency and work ethic were key to earning a spot on the U-16 national team. His ACB debut came on December 7, 2025, and since then he has played minutes in almost every game. He stood out particularly in the match against Aris at Nou Congost, where he scored 14 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and stole 2 balls.
