The former textile complex in Manresa, known as the Fàbrica Bertrand i Serra or Fàbrica Nova, ends the year with its future secured as a center for training, research, and entrepreneurship. This initiative is co-led by the Manresa City Council and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), directly linked to the Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM).
The project covers an area of 25,000 m² and is expected to involve up to 3,000 people, symbolically connecting with the factory's industrial past.
The financial support from the Government of the Generalitat is crucial, with a total investment of 10 million euros, of which four million will be activated in the coming months through the Department of Research and Universities. Simultaneously, the City Council approved the tender documents this year for the interior design project, continuing the facade and roof rehabilitation works that began in November 2024.
The transformation is structured around three main pillars: knowledge (intensive training and research), business (fostering technological entrepreneurship and advanced services), and city/territory (preserving the heritage, declared a local cultural asset, and establishing a new urban center). The project was designed in collaboration with economic agents such as the Manresa Chamber of Commerce, PIMEC, and the Metallurgical Employers' Union.
