US player Trinity Rodman has surpassed Aitana Bonmatí in salary after renewing with the Washington Spirit, setting a new global record in women's football.

Women's football continues to break economic barriers, especially in the United States, the birthplace of the sport. The contract renewal of Trinity Rodman with the Washington Spirit has marked a new milestone in the revaluation of the global market.
The daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman will earn over two million dollars (approximately 1.7 million euros) for each of the three seasons she will remain in Washington. This figure, confirmed by her agent, Mike Senkowski, makes her agreement the highest salary ever paid to a female football player.
Until now, the title of the highest-paid footballer was held by the Catalan player Aitana Bonmatí. The Ballon d'Or winner achieved this distinction after her renewal with Barça in September 2024, extending her contract until 2028 with a salary slightly above one million euros.

"Women's football has experienced very high inflation in a very short time, which I don't know how real it is; we will see where this goes, because it has really grown a lot in the last two years."

Marc Vivés · FC Barcelona Women's Sporting Director
This increase in amounts reflects the global trend, although the sporting director of Barça women's team, Marc Vivés, recently confessed to EL PERIÓDICO that the Catalan club "will never be the club that pays the best" due to international salary differences.
