The structure, located on Verge del Pilar street, was part of a private development that was paralyzed in 2010 due to the real estate crisis. Subsequently, the asset passed into the hands of Sareb, the management company created in 2012 to liquidate toxic assets, which has been majority-owned by the Spanish state since 2022.

The purchase for 340,000 euros (plus VAT) opens the door to a long-term project that will require funding for transformation. The initial idea is to allocate it to public facilities, although it is proposed to demolish part of the building to expand the existing parking area and plan for possible sheltered housing.
The Municipal Government wants to move away from the idea of allocating the block mainly to housing, as the main focus is the rehabilitation and improvement of existing flats in the old town. Ribalta recalls that currently, the Barri Vell (Old Town) has more than 300 empty flats. This strategy aligns with the 2026 budgets and the intention to apply for aid from the Pla de Barris (Neighborhood Plan).
