Around thirty restaurants in Cambrils will offer tastings of bread with new olive oil as an appetizer to their meals between October 30th and November 15th. As a novelty, 14 bakeries with cafes will prepare breakfasts or special dishes with this product from the Agricultural Cooperative. The New Olive Oil Fair will extend throughout the morning of Sunday, November 8th, featuring local producers, tastings, and family activities.
The mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein, highlighted the joint work between the primary sector, hospitality, and administration to promote this star product of the Mediterranean diet. The Councilor for Economic Promotion, Patricia de Miguel, stated that the festival “values the work of our farmers and generates economic activity in Cambrils” and announced that the program “is growing in activities, participating establishments, and cultural and gastronomic offerings”.
The president of the Agricultural Cooperative of Cambrils, Pau Serra, explained that the festival “is already a notable date on the calendar of Cambrils and the region” and highlighted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the popular breakfast at the New Olive Oil Festival.
The program of activities began on October 29th with a conference on olive tree biodiversity. Activities continue with a family route through the olive groves on October 30th, November 6th, and November 7th, and a guided tour of the Cooperative on November 7th.
The New Olive Oil Fair, on November 8th, will include a market with about ten producers, sardana dancing, a parade of the Gegants (giants), a discussion on farming, olive oil tasting, a concert, children's games, food trucks, and an electronic vermouth. The Cooperative will also offer its organic extra virgin olive oil and flavored oils.
